Tell Congress: Prioritize Nutrition Programs in the Next Farm Bill

Stubbornly high food prices have led to uncertainty for families facing hunger. More and more people are turning to critical hunger-fighting programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps), The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). Tell Congress: Pass the strongest possible Farm Bill to help families and individuals facing hunger!

Prioritize Nutrition Programs in the next Farm Bill

Dear [Decision Maker],

Congress can help families and individuals access the food we all need to thrive by strengthening TEFAP, SNAP, and CSFP provisions in the upcoming Farm Bill. This includes:

- Protecting the ability to update SNAP benefit levels every five years through the Thrifty Food Plan to reflect inflation adjustments, modern dietary recommendations, evolving food consumption patterns and preparation methods, and constraints of time-strapped working families.
- Strengthening SNAP's purchasing power so that benefits align with grocery prices and provides adequate support during tough economic times.
- Reauthorizing and doubling annual mandatory funding for TEFAP food purchases to help food banks address the perfect storm of decreased food donations, increased food purchase and transportation costs, and continued higher demand.
- Increasing annual funding for TEFAP storage and distribution to $200 million to help food banks offset the rising costs of storing, transporting and distributing nutritious foods from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
- Reauthorize and streamline reporting for the CSFP program, which provides food to over 700,000 low-income seniors each year.

Sincerely,
